This
day can be said as the most productive day of all. A lot of immersions took
place. With the activities that happen this day, the importance on
environmental development, spreading the word of God, and dealing with other
people can be clearly seen.
First
destination was at the DWCC Mangrove Rehabilitation Project in Barangay Wawa.
Each one was asked to donate P10 for the development of the site. Everyone
experienced planting a mangrove with the assistance of the farmers there. It'd
be more fun if we could take good care of the plants by ourselves and watch
them grow but we don't have enough time to do that since we won't be staying
for long.
We didn’t stay in the mangrove site for long. We immediately proceeded to San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish for the Bible sharing. The Bible sharing was made this way. The reader will share the text; after a short while of inner reflection, it will be read again by another group mate. Lastly, sharing of reflections and experiences will happen. We were given roughly an hour for it.
The
next destination was the radio stations. The whole group was divided into two.
Half went to Barangay Salong to visit Spirit FM while the other half went to
Barangay Lalud to visit DWOM.
Off
to our last and most awaited destination: the immersion in the Mangyan
community! After an hour of bumpy and dusty road, at last, we reached the
place! Representatives from the community gave their welcome speeches! There were also videos presented which concerns the discrimination in their tribe and how the government has taken an action to stop it. Through a dance, they showed us their culture and tradition. The dance was about the way they plant rice. They even let us be part of the dance that made it fun!
Not long enough, we went to the river side to take our lunch. Some chose to cross the bridge and swim in the river first. We were given roughly an hour to swim and enjoy the place! Everyone enjoyed swimming in there! Who wouldn't? The river was so clean! Everyone wanted to extend the time given but unfortunately there are still activities waiting.
"Tao Po" Exposure was the next activity in line. Each group will be assigned in a particular area and there, Filipino tradition of using "Tao po" whenever visiting a house will be practiced.
And now, we are all back to the main area! A solemn Mass presided by Most Rev. Warlito Cajandig. Before the mass ended, there was a sharing of experience from some campers. Ma'am Gemma shared that she should be going to a different place but she was really eager to join the camp that's why she went here instead without the consent of her boss. John Oranga, a student from Saint Jude Catholic School, shared how simple the life in province is compared to the life in the city. He also mentioned that he could see no difference with the Mangyan people and the other people living in the city and provinces that's why he couldn't understand why some people need to discriminate them. Awarding on the Certificate of Participation followed afterwards. Upon getting our snacks, we immediately went back to DWCC. We were given time to do whatever we want to. Some went out to buy pasalubong while some just stayed in DWCC to mingle with others. After taking our last supper there, individually, we were asked to answer an evaluation sheet while the advisers were having a meeting at the gym.
The boys went to each of the girls room to serenade them. Clement, who was famous for his magic tricks, scared the girls with his fake cockroach. You would suddenly hear girls screaming that night because of it. Some took this as the last opportunity to write letters for their fellow campers and drop them in the pouch of the Buslo ng Mensahe. Some stayed in the dining area and chitchat with their newly found friends. There was this group of friends, teaching Frater Joseph Hai a cute dance. It was indeed a night to remember!
